Shriya Saran also known by the mononym Shriya, is an Indian film actress, model and host. She is noted for working in mulitple of the regional industries of Indian cinema, appearing in several mainstream Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu films, as well as a few films in English, Malayalam and Kannada.
After her feature film debut in 2001 with Ishtam, she received her first commercial success in 2002 by playing the role of Bhanu in the Telugu film. Santhosham.Subsequently, she appeared in several Telugu films with prominent actors, while also making in-roads in the Hindi film industry as well as the Tamil film industry.In 2007, Shriya starred alongside Rajinikanth in Sivaji: The Boss, which became the highest grossing Tamil film at that time.She has since appeared in films such as Azhagiya Tamil Magan and Kanthaswamy in Tamil and appeared in high budget Hindi pictures such as Mission Istanbul, roles which have established her as one of the leading actresses in the South Indian film industry.
Shriya also played the lead role in an American-Indian crossover film, The Other End of the Line.Shriya has also featured as the brand ambassador for several stores across India appearing for prominent beauty and health products. On 11 January 2008, a Hindu organisation based in Chennai lodged a police complaint against Saran, objecting to the outfit worn by her during the 175th day celebration of her film, Sivaji: The Boss.In a complaint, the Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) alleged that Shriya's outfit had "offended Hindu culture".Shriya publicly apologised to Tamils and Hindus, saying it was a mistake, and that she had "great respect for the tradition and culture of Tamil NaduI was shooting for a Hindi film in Thanjavur. I came to the function directly from the shooting, I was unaware of the repercussions because of the attire I wore during the function."
Shriya's impending marriage with Rajiv Mallu, her long-time boyfriend. It was no secret in Tollywood that Shriya and Rajiv were seeing each other for a long time. The cozy two-some were a regular thing in many chic parties in the high brow circuit of Hyderabad.

Opportunity in glits
While in her sophomore year at the LSR College in Delhi, Saran was given her first opportunity to appear in front of the camera for a video shoot. Following her dance teacher's recommendation, she was invited to appear in the music video of Renoo Nathan's Thirakti Kyun Hawa.The video, shot at Banaras, prompted Ramoji Films to offer her the lead role of Neha in their film Ishtam. Even before the release of Ishtam, Saran signed four high-budget films including Santosham, Chennakeshava Reddy, Nuvve Nuvve and Tagore.
After a fairly quiet 2004, Saran had ten 2005 releases, nine of which were Telugu films. Chatrapati where she played opposite Prabhas, earned her first nomination for the Filmfare Best Telugu Actress Award.She also made a cameo appearance in the National Film Award-winning Bommalata.Her only 2006 release, other than special appearances, was the Tamil film Thiruvilayadal Arambam.
In 2007, she beat other top actresses for the much coveted role opposite Rajinikanth in S. Shankar's Sivaji: The Boss, which was the most expensive Indian film at that time.Later that year she appeared in one more Tamil film, Azhagiya Tamil Magan opposite Vijay. She received mixed reviews by critics for her performance, but universal praise for her looks.
Saran then made her Hollywood debut in Ashok Amritraj's The Other End of the Line. She played the role of Priya Sethi who works as a telephone operator in an India Call Centre, while acting alongside Jesse Metcalfe, Anupham Kher and Tara Sharma. Shriya's performance was praised by critic, particularly her on-screen chemistry with Jesse Metcalfe.
In 2009, she appeared in Tamil film Kanthaswamy, gaining her a nomination at the Vijay Awards, and win at the Mathrubhumi awards.

Shriya's parents are equally upset at seeing their daughter's name for all the wrong reasons. "My parents are most upset. It's very embarrassing to face them for something as obnoxious like this," admitted Shriya.

"I was born with a good figure. In fact, it was my mother who taught me how to stay fit and slim. I never eat sweets or ice screams to remain slim. I also do yoga every morning."
